The complete works of Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes comic strip will be released in digital format for the first time on October 6, 2026. Andrews McMeel Universal announced that The Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium sets, along with Watterson and John Kascht’s illustrated fable The Mysteries, will arrive as ebooks.
The digital release will consist of 14 separate volumes, priced at $9.99 each. Every volume features cover art selected by Watterson from the comic strip archives and will be sold in Fixed Layout, EPDF, and Kindle Fixed Layout formats.
The ebook launch coincides with the print release of the seventh and final set in The Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium series. This final two-volume collection covers the last year of published comic strips alongside a collection of stories, poems, and color artwork.
In addition to the publication releases, a traveling exhibition titled Exploring Calvin and Hobbes will open at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Running from November 14, 2026, through May 31, 2027, the display marks the first time Watterson’s original drawings have been made available for a touring exhibition.
Organized by the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at The Ohio State University Libraries, the exhibition features original daily and Sunday strips as well as specialty artwork. The event is curated by Jenny E. Robb, head curator of the library and museum.
