Musician and composer Harry Connick, Jr. will release a new orchestral album, Babe: Elaboratio, on Sept. 25. The three-part composition honors the life and legacy of his late mother, Anita-Francis Livingston Connick, whom he lost to ovarian cancer at age 13.
Written, arranged, and produced entirely by Connick, the work traces his mother’s life through three locations: New York, Morocco, and New Orleans. The composition explores her upbringing in New York, meeting her husband in Morocco, and her subsequent career as one of the first female judges in New Orleans.
The album was recorded in Melbourne at Iwaki Auditorium, featuring more than 70 musicians from Orchestra Victoria alongside the Harry Connick, Jr. Big Band, conducted by Jessica Gethin. An excerpt from the first movement, Act I: New York, has been released ahead of the full album launch.
Connick previously debuted the material during his first performances at Carnegie Hall on May 22 and May 23, 2026, marking what would have been his mother’s 100th birthday. The upcoming September release will be available on streaming platforms and CD formats, with a vinyl release planned for a later date.
