Retired homicide detective Jim Fountain has released “Death Count,” a fiction mystery thriller inspired by actual investigative cases and informed by his background in law enforcement. The book is published through Archway Publishing.
The story centers on the unsolved murder of a 17-year-old girl, which prompts an inquiry by a specialized investigative unit. As the team works through the case, they uncover a wider criminal network and navigate complex ethical decisions while pursuing justice for the victims.
A central storyline follows a young survivor who provides details about the crimes, referred to in the book as her “death count.” The unit uses her detailed account to create a mathematical formula that assists in tracking down those responsible for the attacks.
Fountain drew on his law enforcement career to write the book, focusing on how missing basic safety precautions can lead to preventable crimes. The narrative highlights both the physical and emotional recovery of the survivor alongside the investigative process.
