Multi-platinum rock bands Gin Blossoms and Blues Traveler united on stage during Monday night’s three-hour “American Idol” season finale broadcast.
Robin Wilson and Jesse Valenzuela of Gin Blossoms joined John Popper and Chan Kinchla of Blues Traveler for collaborative performances of their respective 1990s hit singles, “Hey Jealousy” and “Hook.” The musicians were joined on stage by Season 24 “American Idol” contestants Jake Thistle and Jesse Findling. The finale episode is currently available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
The collaborative television appearance serves as a preview for the bands’ upcoming 2026 co-headlining summer tour, which is scheduled to launch on July 6 at the Amphitheater at Las Colonias Park. The coast-to-coast tour follows a successful 2025 joint run and will once again feature the alternative rock band Spin Doctors as special guests.
The 2026 tour aligns with several major recording milestones for the participating acts. Gin Blossoms is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their platinum-selling album Congratulations I’m Sorry, which produced the Top 10 single “Follow You Down” and the Grammy-nominated track “As Long as It Matters.”
Concurrently, support act Spin Doctors is marking the 35th anniversary of their multi-platinum debut album, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, known for the Grammy-nominated single “Two Princes.” Last year, Blues Traveler celebrated the 30th anniversary of their Grammy-winning breakthrough single, “Run-Around.”
Formed in Princeton, New Jersey, Blues Traveler has released 14 studio albums over a nearly 40-year career, selling more than 10 million units worldwide and playing over 2,000 live shows. The current lineup includes John Popper, Chan Kinchla, Tad Kinchla, Ben Wilson, and Brendan Hill. Their recent discography includes the Grammy-nominated 2021 blues compilation Traveler’s Blues and the 2023 R&B and soul cover album, Traveler’s Soul.
Gin Blossoms formed in Tempe, Arizona, in 1987 and achieved major-label success with their four-times-platinum album New Miserable Experience, which featured “Hey Jealousy,” “Allison Road,” and “Until I Fall Away.” The current lineup features Robin Wilson, Jesse Valenzuela, Bill Leen, and Scotty Johnson. The band’s latest studio album is Mixed Reality.
