Grammy-winning rapper, singer, and songwriter Everlast officially announced his first studio album in eight years, titled “Embers to Ashes.” The album is scheduled for release on Aug. 28 through his own Martyr Inc Records, in partnership with Thirty Tigers and Regime Music Group.

The upcoming project was produced by Yelawolf and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, featuring cover art by award-winning artist Tristan Eaton. The album is described as an Americana and bluesy roots-rock collection that draws from a decade of personal upheaval, including the loss of the artist’s Los Angeles home in the 2018 Woolsey fire, the pandemic, and a divorce.

“The album is a collection of songs that revolve around my last decade, not necessarily autobiographical but ‘inspired by’ the chaos, losses and a few wins,” Everlast said. The collaboration with Yelawolf was a decade in the making, following a 2015 meeting in Berlin where the producer first expressed interest in helming a record for the “What It’s Like” singer.

To coincide with the announcement, Everlast released a second single and music video titled “My Hollywood,” which offers a look at the highs and lows of the entertainment industry. It follows the first single, “Stones,” which BroBible characterized as a “masterclass in the genre-bending style Everlast pioneered.” The 17-track record also includes collaborations with co-writers such as David Ray.

The album explores various narrative and social themes, including the pensive “Losing Man’s Game” and the protest song “Rubber Bullets,” written during the fallout of George Floyd’s murder. The track “1987” reflects on the artist’s early career in the West Valley before his initial success with Ice-T and House of Pain. The album concludes with “Young Man,” a track where Everlast imparts wisdom to the next generation, including his two daughters.

Everlast, born Erik Francis Schrody, rose to global fame in 1992 with the House of Pain hit “Jump Around” and later earned critical acclaim for the triple-platinum 1998 solo album “Whitey Ford Sings the Blues.” Throughout his three-decade career, he has won a Grammy with Santana and amassed over 16 billion global streams. He is currently scheduled to perform at the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Maryland, on Sept. 25, with more tour dates expected soon.
