Backroads announces first Michigan biking and multi-adventure tours for upcoming season

Backroads launches new trips in Michigan for adults and families

Active travel operator Backroads has announced its initial itinerary lineup for the 2027 season, marking the company’s first entry into the state of Michigan. The expansion represents the organization’s first new domestic state destination since establishing its South Dakota routes four years ago.

The newly introduced Northern Michigan itineraries include a dedicated biking tour for adults and a multi-adventure trip designed for families. Planned routes will guide travelers through regional lakeside towns, Traverse City orchards, and the car-free trails of Mackinac Island.

In addition to the domestic expansion, the company is increasing its presence in Spain’s Canary Islands with a new family multi-adventure itinerary and an adult biking route. The decision follows a 12 percent year-over-year increase in advanced family bookings reported by the operator between 2026 and 2027.

The upcoming calendar also features an expansion of specialized travel categories, including easygoing electronic biking and walking tours branded as Dolce Tempo. New women-only active excursions are also scheduled across global destinations, including the French Pyrenees, the German and Austrian Alps, and Nova Scotia.

The company has also rebranded its top-tier accommodation partnerships under the new name Luxury Hotels collection. The portfolio includes established independent properties and international hospitality brands such as Aman, Belmond, and Relais & Chateaux.
