CBS announced a special summer programming event to celebrate the 50th season of the long-running reality competition series Survivor. The network plans to re-air the entire milestone season from the beginning, allowing viewers to revisit the episodes or watch them for the first time.
The rewatch event begins on Monday, July 20, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. Episodes will broadcast on the CBS television network and will also be available to stream on Paramount+.
The featured season marked 25 years of the franchise and included returning contestants who are popular with fans. The episodes follow the players from the initial marooning through the strategic alliances and blind sides that led to the final vote for the sole survivor.
Network representatives stated that the broadcast schedule provides a way for audiences to count down to the upcoming premiere of Survivor 51. The next phase of the franchise is being described by producers as the start of an open era for the competition.
The reality television programming schedule also includes a crossover event with another CBS competition franchise, Big Brother. The current season of Big Brother premiered on Thursday, July 9, on CBS and Paramount+.
Two former Survivor competitors, Rick Devens and season 45 winner Dee Valladares, will enter the Big Brother house this summer. The network indicated that the appearance will test how the former island competitors adapt their social and strategic gameplay to the indoor environment.
CBS plans to announce additional details regarding the broadcast schedule and special fan initiatives at a later date.
