Documentary film We Belong Here: The Story of Team Dream premieres on OWN September 26

The OWN Spotlight documentary We Belong Here: The Story of Team Dream will premiere on the OWN network on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, the film examines the formation and athletic journey of Team Dream.

Led by NCAA champion Haley Eckerman, 12 Black women joined together in 2018 to compete in the USA Volleyball Open National Championship with limited practice time. Their participation established them as the first all-Black women’s professional volleyball team.

The documentary features direct commentary from the players without an external narrator. The narrative highlights the team’s experiences, personal relationships, and achievements while addressing the systemic challenges the athletes encountered within the sport.

OWN President Tina Perry noted that the team’s story illustrates the impact of female athletes uniting to create community and representation in competitive athletics. The documentary previously made its initial debut at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival.

The project is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, a Banijay Americas company, specifically for OWN. Television viewers can tune in for the network premiere on Sept. 26.
