Prince’s NPG Records and The Prince Estate have announced 3121 Expanded Edition, arriving worldwide Dec. 11 digitally and in 3LP + Blu-ray and 2CD + Blu-ray sets. The release celebrates the 20th anniversary of Prince’s chart-topping 2006 album. It revisits a defining chapter in his later career through additional studio recordings and concert footage from the Prince vault, related to his 2007 Las Vegas residency.
The expanded digital edition pairs the original 12-track album with 10 additional raw recordings. These include acoustic versions of “The Word,” “Love” and “Te Amo Corazón,” along with “Time of Ur Life,” “The Streets of Panama,” “Another Girl” and “Glass Cutter.” The physical editions pair 3121 with a Blu-ray featuring live concert footage filmed in Las Vegas in 2007.
Prince: 3121 Las Vegas Concert opens in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Dec. 3 for a limited run, with tickets on sale Nov. 11. The 154-minute concert film is presented in 4K and Dolby Atmos at equipped theaters. It spans hits, fan favorites, deep cuts, and extended jams.
A live album, 3121 Las Vegas Live, arrives Nov. 27 for Record Store Day Black Friday. It will be available on 3LP crystal blue vinyl and 2CD at participating independent record stores. The album captures more than two hours of Prince’s Jan. 20, 2007, performance in Las Vegas, moving between “Purple Rain,” “Kiss,” “If I Was Your Girlfriend” and “U Got the Look.” The set also includes songs from 3121 and Musicology, and covers such as “Pass the Peas,” “Crazy” and “Play That Funky Music.”
Preorders and presaves launch today, alongside the previously unreleased track “Time of Ur Life” and a live performance video of “Black Sweat” on YouTube.
“Twenty years later, ‘3121’ remains a classic and a reminder of an extraordinary period in Prince’s career,” said L. Londell McMillan, Prince’s longtime attorney and manager. Támar Davis, vocalist on the album, said she remains grateful to have contributed her voice to the record and to have been part of such a remarkable creative experience.
3121 was originally released March 21, 2006, through NPG Records and Universal Music. It became Prince’s first album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and his fourth to top the chart. The album takes its name from the Los Angeles home where Prince hosted parties and recording sessions, and its songs earned multiple Grammy nominations.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prince pioneered the Minneapolis sound across more than 39 albums, including 1999, Purple Rain, Parade, and Sign o’ the Times. He is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, with estimated sales exceeding 100 million records worldwide. His Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota, remains an active museum, recording studio, and concert venue.
