The Grammy-winning musician, poet, and actor Allison Russell has released her third studio album, titled In the Hour of Chaos, through Fantasy Records. The album was produced by Russell alongside the production duo Dim Star and features a collaborative collection of tracks recorded with numerous guest artists.

The new record features musical contributions from a diverse lineup of performers, including Norah Jones, Brittney Spencer, Devon Gilfillian, Sara Watkins, and Joy Oladokun. To coincide with the launch, Russell released a music video directed by Athena Kulb for the focal track “Searchlight,” which features vocals from singer Kashus Culpepper.

Several tracks from the album were released prior to the full street date. These include the Juneteenth single “Black Lavender” featuring Brittney Spencer, “No Springtime” featuring Joy Oladokun and Julie Williams, and “Cold April,” which features Denitia, Kara Jackson, and the Explore! Pop Choir.

Additional album tracks highlight collaborative performances with artists from Russell’s adopted home of Nashville. The song “Really Real” includes an appearance by Norah Jones, while “Just Like Saturday” features Ruby Amanfu, “Love is a Golden Lion” features Devon Gilfillian, “Two Stars” features Chibueze Ihuoma, and the closing track “Good Omens” features harpist Ahya Simone.

Outside of the recording studio, Russell recently participated in a community panel discussion at The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville alongside Representative Justin Jones and moderator Ruby Amanfu. Earlier this year, she also performed a tribute duet to Joni Mitchell with Sarah McLachlan at the Juno Awards.

The album arrival follows Russell’s second Broadway run performing as Persephone in the musical Hadestown, a role she initially took over in November 2024. Prior to her Broadway appearances, the Montreal-born artist spent much of 2024 opening for the musician Hozier on his international arena tour, scoring her first Billboard Hot 100 entry with their duet “Wildflower & Barley.”
