Epic Records recording artist Sara Bareilles has released her seventh studio album, Good Grief. The 14-track self-produced collection marks her first full-length studio release since 2019’s Amidst the Chaos.
Bareilles recorded the majority of the album over six days at Dreamland Recording Studios in Woodstock, New York, alongside a group of longtime musical collaborators. Additional sessions took place at Long Pond Studios in the Hudson Valley with co-producer Aaron Dessner. The album features contributions from Brandi Carlile, Andrea Gibson, Ingrid Michaelson, Joe Tippett, and Megan Falley.
Alongside the album launch, Bareilles unveiled a music video for the track “Just a Kid,” directed by Josh Alexander. The video incorporates archival footage from early tours featuring her tour manager, Chad Joseph. The record also includes the previously released singles “Home” and “Still Crying,” as well as “Salt Then Sour Then Sweet,” a track co-written with Carlile and the late poet Andrea Gibson.
The creation of the album is featured in an upcoming documentary titled Sara Bareilles: Good Grief. Directed by Josh Alexander and produced by Daniel J. Chalfen, the film documents her recording process and creative return to the studio. The documentary will open in theaters across New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and more than 35 additional cities on September 2.
In support of the new release, Bareilles will embark on the Live Nation-promoted Good Grief Tour this fall. The North American concert tour begins September 9 in Boston and includes stops at theater venues in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco.
