Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black is being reissued in a series of special formats to mark the album’s 20th anniversary. UMR/Island released a 3LP, 3CD and digital deluxe edition, along with limited edition studio album variants. All formats are available now.
The 3LP clear vinyl and 3CD sets collect the Back to Black era in one package. They include four unreleased demos, rare B-sides and the deluxe tracks. The third disc features Winehouse’s February 8, 2007, performance at Paradiso in Amsterdam from the Back to Black tour, which has never been released in full on vinyl or streaming.
The editions feature new alternative cover artwork and an image of Winehouse’s handwritten lyrics from Mark Ronson’s archives. They also include never-before-seen photos by original album photographers Mischa Richter and Alex Lake. New liner notes come from producers and friends Ronson and Salaam Remi.
Two limited edition 1LP versions of the original album are also available. One is a “Chalkboard Marble” color vinyl. The other is a webstore exclusive Zoetrope vinyl that features moving footage of Winehouse.
“It’s crazy that six songs made in a fit of furious musical infatuation would matter so deeply to so many people twenty years later,” Ronson said. Remi called Winehouse “one of one,” describing her as a one-of-a-kind artist, spirit and soul.
Back to Black was originally released on October 27, 2006. In the UK, it debuted at No. 3, later reached No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart and became the best-selling album of 2007. It has earned 15x Platinum certification there with more than 4.5 million copies sold.
In the U.S., the album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 2 after Winehouse won five Grammy Awards. Those included Record of the Year and Song of the Year, with “Rehab” among the winners. The album has since earned double-Platinum RIAA certification, topped charts across Europe, and sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
