Apple Original Films has announced the title and release date for the first fully authorized documentary about Fleetwood Mac. “Fleetwood Mac: The Chain” will premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday, Jan. 29, 2027.
The film features Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks telling the band’s story in their own words. All five are Grammy Award-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Frank Marshall, a five-time Academy Award nominee and Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award winner, directs.
The title comes from the band’s hit “The Chain,” the only song on the album Rumours credited to all five members. The song reflects the complicated but lasting bond among the band members. The premiere coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Grammy Award-winning album’s release.
The documentary follows the band from its 1974 meeting through its more than 50-year history and up to today. It includes never-before-seen footage and new interviews. The film looks at how the group’s challenges, resilience and musical skill produced songs that have lasted, and at what brought the members back together under pressure from inside and outside the band. Fleetwood Mac has sold more than 220 million records worldwide.
The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures produce the film. Marshall produces alongside Nigel Sinclair, Nicholas Ferrall, Jeanne Elfant Festa and Aly Parker. Cassidy Hartmann and Tony Rosenthal are executive producers, and Mark Monroe of Diamond Docs is the writer and an executive producer.
“Fleetwood Mac: The Chain” joins an Apple Original Films documentary slate that includes “Come See Me in the Good Light,” “STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me” and “STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces.” Apple TV launched on Nov. 1, 2019, and offers series, feature films, documentaries and family programming across a range of devices.
