TLC will premiere “Crown of Deceit: Inside the Miss Universe Scandal,” a three-part documentary event, on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The series looks at the controversies, allegations and legal disputes that have surrounded Miss USA and Miss Universe for years.
The documentary features exclusive interviews with former contestants, pageant insiders and whistleblowers, along with behind-the-scenes access. It examines claims of intimidation, secret NDAs and leadership failures, as well as allegations of misconduct, abuse of power, favoritism and competition rigging.
Taylor Hale, Miss Michigan 2021 and a Miss USA contestant, appears in the series. So do Noelia Voigt, Miss USA 2023, and Brittany Mason, Miss Indiana 2008 and a Miss USA contestant. They share their experiences as concerns around contestant safety, financial pressures, ownership disputes, and leadership turmoil come into focus.
The series also covers Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand, where a public confrontation led to a contestant walkout. A judge resigned ahead of the finals, alleging that finalists were pre-selected. Secret audio recordings and additional controversies raised further questions about the organization’s integrity.
The documentary also focuses on the people at the center of the story, exploring resilience, personal sacrifice and the emotional cost of pursuing a dream amid organizational turmoil. It asks whether Miss Universe can rebuild trust as the pageant world faces questions about its future.
