Susanna Hoffs has released “Bad Case of Loneliness,” a new single featuring vocals from Rufus Wainwright. The track serves as the final preview for her upcoming album of original music, The List, which arrives on September 18 through Baroque Folk Records.
Written by Hoffs alongside CJ Camerieri and Ryan Lerman, the song explores themes of vulnerability and human connection. The recording features an ensemble of musicians, including pedal steel player Greg Leisz, guitarist Ryan Lerman, bassist Spencer Zahn, drummer JT Bates, and Benny Bock on Udo.
The track marks another collaboration between Hoffs and Wainwright, who previously recorded a duet cover of “Happy Together” for the 2025 film The Roses. Hoffs co-produced the 12-track album with Camerieri, recording the material live inside her Los Angeles home.
The List draws from Hoffs’ personal experiences over the decades, covering topics such as heartbreak, an empty nest, and new relationships. The album features guest appearances and songwriting contributions from artists including Dan Wilson, Edie Brickell, Jesse Harris, Larry Goldings, and Desure.
Best known as a co-founder of the multi-platinum group The Bangles, Hoffs crafted the new material through living room jam sessions with various creative partners. Previous singles released from the project include “This Island” and “Casablanca.”
In support of the new release, Hoffs and her core band will embark on a United States tour. The upcoming schedule includes festival appearances, shows with Billy Idol, and a sold-out, five-night residency at Café Carlyle in New York City.
