Rutland Regional Medical Center is inviting local families to a Trunk or Treat event at its West Ridge Center in Rutland, Vermont. The event takes place Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m.
It will be held outside at the West Ridge Center, 1 Scale Ave., Building 10, in the Howe Center. Staff and community partners will hand out candy from the trunks of their decorated vehicles in the parking lot.
“Each year, this event exceeds our expectations,” said Faith Stone, program director at the West Ridge Center. “We have so much fun welcoming members of our community and their children for lots of safe spooky Halloween fun. Attendees and staff wear costumes and put a lot of work into their displays.”
Staff will be joined by partners from the Rutland Turning Point Center, the Rutland High School Nursing Department and the Vermont Prevention Lead Organization program. Information on prevention and treatment will also be available. Train rides will return this year courtesy of the Giancola Corporation.
The Trunk or Treat began as a way for the West Ridge Center team to celebrate Halloween with patients, their families and the greater Rutland community. “We are inspired every day by the strength of our patients, and this event allows us to bring the community together in a fun and engaging way,” Stone said.
The West Ridge Center was established by Rutland Regional Medical Center and opened in 2013 to meet the growing need for addiction recovery services in the Rutland area. Its specialists treat opioid use disorder with medication-assisted therapies combined with psychological and social counseling. The center also offers classes on topics including nutrition and wellness and relapse skill building.
