Australian rock band INXS has announced an audiophile vinyl reissue of their 1987 album Kick ahead of the group’s first-ever nomination to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The limited-edition release, part of the Rhino High Fidelity series, arrives May 1 and is available exclusively at Rhino.com, with only 5,000 individually numbered copies pressed.
The reissue was mastered from the original tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Optimal in Germany. It features gatefold packaging and newly written liner notes by music journalist David Fricke.
Recorded with producer Chris Thomas and mixed by Bob Clearmountain, Kick marked a defining moment for INXS, blending new wave, funk, and rock. The album produced four U.S. Top 10 singles: “Need You Tonight,” “Devil Inside,” “New Sensation,” and “Never Tear Us Apart,” and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. It earned six-times platinum certification in the U.S. and diamond status in Canada.
Tim Farriss, the band’s guitarist, recalled that the album’s “less is more” approach emphasized simplicity while highlighting key musical moments, from Hutchence’s vocals to Pengilly’s saxophone lines.
The Hall of Fame nomination is the band’s first in nearly 50 years. Inductees for the Class of 2026 are expected to be announced next month, with the ceremony scheduled for later this fall. Andrew Farriss said the band feels “thrilled and excited” by the recognition.
