The Hartford Nationals, organized by Move United, will return to Grand Rapids, Michigan, from July 10 through July 16, 2026. The competition serves as the largest and longest-running national sport championship event for athletes with a physical disability, visual impairment, or intellectual disability.
This year, the competition will feature 424 athletes and 146 coaches representing 38 states and the District of Columbia. To qualify for the national event, participants had to advance through one of more than 35 sanctioned regional competitions across the country.
The multi-sport event includes archery, boccia, para powerlifting, paratriathlon, aquathlon, shooting, swimming, track and field, and tennis. Competitions will be held at various local facilities, including Calvin University, the Mary Free Bed YMCA, Millennium Park, MSA Fieldhouse, and the MVP Athletic Club.
During the week, corporate sponsor The Hartford and Paralympic gold medalist Matt Scott will present custom-fit adaptive sports equipment to six selected athletes. The organization will also present the Human Achievement Award, which includes a $2,500 training grant for the recipient.
Several current and former Paralympians, including Daniel Romanchuk, Brian Siemann, and Eliaz Willis, are scheduled to lead specialized track clinics. Other prominent adaptive sports figures, such as Amanda McGrory and Chuck Aoki, will assist during the week as event announcers.
The local organizing committee is managed by the West Michigan Sports Commission alongside Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports. All competitive events throughout the week are free and open to the public, concluding with a closing celebration at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
