San Francisco band Train has released its 12th studio album, Mad Dog in the Fog, through Columbia Records. The new release arrives four years after the group’s previous record and pays tribute to the city where the band originally formed.
The album takes its name from the San Francisco neighborhood bar that served as one of Train’s earliest venues. Frontman Pat Monahan stated that the bar was the first venue to pay the band to perform, making the title a dedicated nod to the community and history that shaped the group’s three-decade career.
To celebrate the release, Train hosted a block party that temporarily closed Haight Street outside the venue. The band delivered a free 40-minute performance featuring longtime hits alongside new tracks from the record, including “Pennsylvania Turnpike,” “Blue Brush-Footed Butterfly,” “To Gloria,” and the title track.
The event featured appearances by San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and former 49ers player Harris Barton. Bar owner Cyril Hackett introduced the band on stage, noting that Train’s return to the venue marked a historic moment for live music in the neighborhood.
The release comes during the final week of the band’s Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in the Atmosphere Tour. The North American summer tour, which featured special guests Barenaked Ladies and Matt Nathanson on most dates, concludes its run with four final performances across Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
Formed in 1994, the multi-Grammy Award-winning band has achieved multi-platinum and diamond status over its career, selling millions of albums worldwide. The current lineup includes lead vocalist Pat Monahan, guitarist Butch Walker, bassist Hector Maldonado, keyboardist Jerry Becker, and drummer Matt Musty.
