Recording artist Jason Mraz has made his album titled Grandma’s Gospel Favorites available to the public. The collection was originally recorded in 2007 as a personal gift for his grandmother. The track list features several classic hymns and standard songs, including His Eye Is On The Sparrow, Old Rugged Cross, and a rendition of Johnny Cash’s Daddy Sang Bass featuring background vocals by collaborator Noel Toca Rivera.
The visual artwork for the album consists of a watercolor portrait created by artist Linda Cheung. Mraz discovered the painting on the envelope of a fan letter sent to him several years prior. The timing of opening the letter coincided with the planning stages for the public album release, leading to its selection for the cover art.
A video for the track Daddy Sang Bass was filmed as part of a performance series directed by Jeff Coffman. The video launched on the artist’s official YouTube channel under the title Live from The Mranch. The two-time Grammy Award winner and Songwriters Hall of Fame honoree previously released his eighth studio album, Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride, in 2023.
The musician also completed a national television appearance on the finale of American Idol. Mraz performed his song I Won’t Give Up alongside contestant Keyla Richardson, who had previously utilized the track during the competition season. The performance preceded the East Coast leg of his solo acoustic tour.
The setlist functioned as a retrospective of material from his entire career, following a prior sold-out run of shows across the United Kingdom and Europe. Outside of recording, Mraz manages the Jason Mraz Foundation to support inclusive arts education.
