Time Spent Driving releases ‘long-lost’ track ahead of 25th anniversary reissue

Indie-emo veterans Time Spent Driving have released “What It Should Be Like,” a song originally drafted more than 20 years ago and recently completed for the upcoming deluxe reissue of their 2002 album, “Just Enough Bright.”
The track is available now on all streaming platforms and serves as the 11th song on the 25th-anniversary vinyl edition, which is set for release April 10 via Thirty Something Records.
“What It Should Be Like” was written around the time of the band’s initial breakup but remained unfinished for decades. The group returned to the studio in 2024 with producer Olav Tabatabai at Compound Recording to finally track the song, which frontman Jon Cattivera describes as a “verbatim snapshot” of a specific memory.

“It was just refreshing to be around someone who was so in love with life,” Cattivera said of the inspiration behind the lyrics. “A few years ago, we finally went back into the studio and tracked it specifically for the 25th-anniversary vinyl reissue. I think long-time fans will appreciate where this one sits alongside the old material.”
The anniversary edition of “Just Enough Bright” features a full remix by the album’s original producer, J. Robbins, known for his work with Jawbox and Against Me!. The recordings were also remastered by Dan Coutant of Sun Room Audio to provide updated clarity to the 2002 sessions, which were originally captured at Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco.

Formed in 1998, Time Spent Driving became a staple of the Bay Area’s melodic punk and emo scene, touring extensively across the United States and Europe. “Just Enough Bright” has remained a cult favorite in the genre for its balance of high-energy punk urgency and introspective songwriting.
The deluxe vinyl edition, featuring the newly completed track and the J. Robbins remix, can be pre-ordered through the band’s official channels and Thirty Something Records.
