Universal Music Group and Apple Corps Ltd. have announced an expanded special edition release of The Beatles’ 1965 album Rubber Soul. Set for release on October 2 through Apple Corps Ltd., Capitol, and UMe, the reissue features new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes created by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell.
The collection utilizes de-mixing technology developed by WingNut Films to clean up the original four-track master tapes. Alongside the new stereo mix, the release includes the original mono mix, the original Capitol U.S. album version, and the contemporary single “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out.”
The Super Deluxe editions feature 24 early session recordings, including 20 previously unreleased takes and three home demos. Among the unreleased material is “Little Girl,” a previously unheard song outline by John Lennon. A preview track, “Michelle (Take 1),” has been made available ahead of the full release.
A companion 88-page hardbound book included with the 4CD and 5LP Super Deluxe box sets features a new introduction by Paul McCartney and a foreword compiled from historical quotes by John Lennon. The reissue will be available across multiple physical formats, including standard vinyl, CD, Blu-ray, and limited-edition picture discs.
First recorded over four weeks in late 1965, Rubber Soul featured songs such as “Drive My Car,” “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),” and “In My Life.” Pre-orders for all formats of the upcoming special edition are currently available online.
