The Wonderful World: Friends of Music Therapy will honor singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega with the 2026 Phoebe Jacobs Award on Monday, Oct. 13. The award presentation will take place during the Wonderful World Gala at the Angel Orensanz Center in New York City.
Vega emerged as a prominent figure in the 1980s folk revival with hit songs including “Luka” and “Tom’s Diner.” Over a career spanning more than four decades, she has released 10 studio albums, including her 2025 release, Flying with Angels.
The Phoebe Jacobs Award is named after Louis Armstrong’s longtime publicist and co-founder of the Jazz Foundation of America. Previous award recipients include Rosanne Cash, John Leventhal, Paul Shaffer, Samara Joy, David Sanborn, Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones, and Jon Batiste.
The annual Wonderful World Gala serves as a fundraiser benefiting the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine. The event brings together members of the music, medical, and philanthropic communities to celebrate Armstrong’s legacy.
Established in 1994, the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine provides music therapy services to patients across the Mount Sinai Health System. The non-profit organization integrates music into medical settings for patients of all ages, including neonatal care, oncology, pain management, and pediatric emergency departments.
