HGTV has announced the return of its spinoff series Scariest House in America, hosted by actress and comedian Retta. Season three will premiere on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time.
The upcoming season expands to a new format consisting of six one-hour episodes, increasing from the half-hour length of previous seasons. Retta will travel to 20 different properties across the country, touring homes that owners report to be haunted or visually terrifying.
Locations featured in season three span regions including New England, the Midwest, the East, and the Ozarks. Specific sites highlighted during the run include a centuries-old farmhouse, a former nursing home, and a jailer’s residence constructed in the 1800s.
In the season premiere on September 18, Retta visits properties in Florida, Ohio, and West Virginia. Stops featured in the opener include a concrete home with rattling doors, a gingerbread cottage, a 1920s observatory, and a Victorian home associated with reported paranormal activity.
Throughout the season, Retta evaluates each property based on liveability and appearance. At the conclusion of the six-part run, HGTV will select one property as the winning house, which will receive a $150,000 home renovation designed by network personality Alison Victoria.
