Sara Bareilles announces new album Good Grief and fall North American tour

Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles will release her seventh studio album, Good Grief, on August 28 through Epic Records. The 14-track collection represents her first studio album since 2019’s Amidst the Chaos.
The album’s first single, “Home,” was released today. Bareilles noted that the track was inspired by a conversation regarding grief and loss between Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper on Cooper’s podcast.
“This whole collection of songs felt like transmissions rather than a deliberate attempt to make sense of the world,” Bareilles said. She shared her hope that the music provides comfort or catharsis for listeners.
Bareilles produced the project herself, tracking the majority of the record over six days at Dreamland Recording Studios in Woodstock, New York. Her recording band featured drummer Charley Drayton, guitarist Butterfly Boucher, keyboardist Misty Boyce, bassist Solomon Dorsey, multi-instrumentalist Rob Moose, and co-producer Jonathan Low. Additional sessions took place at Long Pond Studios in the Hudson Valley with co-producer Aaron Dessner and engineer Bella Blasko. The album also features contributions from Brandi Carlile, Andrea Gibson, Ingrid Michaelson, Joe Tippett, and Megan Falley.

A companion documentary titled Sara Bareilles: Good Grief will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 4. Directed by Josh Alexander and produced by Daniel J. Chalfen, the film captures Bareilles returning to the studio with close friends to record for the first time in seven years.
The album tracklist includes “Salt Then Sour Then Sweet,” a song co-written with Carlile and the late poet and activist Andrea Gibson. The track previously appeared in the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which Bareilles executive produced.
Following the August album release, Live Nation will promote Bareilles’ North American headlining tour this fall. The concert series begins September 9 in Boston, with scheduled stops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco. Ticket presales open for artists, Verizon, and CITI customers on Monday, June 8, followed by the general public sale on Wednesday, June 10 at 10 A.M. local time.
