The Chicago punk rock quartet Rise Against has released two new singles titled “Katy Bar The Door” and “Living Undercover.” The new tracks reflect the rebellious spirit the band has maintained for over a quarter of a century.
Vocalist Tim McIlrath stated that the title “Katy Bar The Door” comes from an old idiom signaling approaching trouble. He noted that he was drawn to resurrecting the obscure reference because it captures the feeling of living in 2026.
Written following violent Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in Minneapolis, the track addresses systemic abuses of power. McIlrath noted that bearing witness to the fragility of democracy requires a response, placing the song within a larger historical context.
The second single, “Living Undercover,” explores the concept of elements hidden in plain sight. McIlrath explained that the song’s cloak-and-dagger tone ties directly into its central themes of concealed darkness or beauty.
Both songs were recorded at The Blasting Room, serving as a return to a familiar location for the group. McIlrath described the studio as a home away from home where the band has worked extensively over the years.
The release follows the announcement of the band’s upcoming U.S. headlining tour this fall, featuring support from Alkaline Trio. The tour launches in Dallas on September 22 at the South Side Ballroom and includes stops in New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and several other cities. Rise Against is currently touring the United Kingdom in support of Jimmy Eat World.
