Minneapolis and Paisley Park announce community sing-along for Prince Celebration

City leaders and representatives from Paisley Park gathered in downtown Minneapolis to unveil plans for a community sing-along as part of the annual Prince Celebration Block Party. The free, all-ages outdoor event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, near the 110-foot Prince mural located at 101 North 9th St.
The two-hour participatory music event marks the city’s contribution to memorializing the 10th anniversary of the artist’s passing and his birthday on June 7. Led by musical director Sanford Moore and a 100-vocalist mass choir, the crowd will be guided through hits such as “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Sometimes it Snows in April.” Organizers hope to gather up to 15,000 people for the tribute.
“In Minneapolis, we don’t just remember Prince — we feel him in the streets, in the music, in who we are,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said. “So, this June, we’re turning downtown into a citywide choir, a full-on celebration, and yes, a dance party too. Whether you can hit every note or just love his songs, this sing-along is about honoring a legacy that still brings this city together every day.”
The block party and sing-along are signature components of the broader Prince Celebration, a five-day “10th Anniversary Celebration of Life” presented by Paisley Park from June 3 to 7. L. Londell McMillan, Prince’s former attorney and manager, noted the event provides public access to those who cannot make it to Paisley Park.
“Prince remained loyal and loved this city deeply,” McMillan said. “The Block Party and Sing Along are about coming together in that same spirit, celebrating each other through his music in the heart of the community that meant so much to him.”
