Beyoncé has released a new song titled “Morning Dew (Donk)” to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. The track marks the beginning of a 60-day countdown leading up to a special re-issue of her second studio album, “B’Day.”
The upcoming 20th Anniversary edition commemorates the record originally released on the entertainer’s 25th birthday on September 4, 2006. The new single became available to listeners on all streaming platforms at 9:00 a.m. EST.
The track was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, with production handled by Beyoncé and Williams. This release represents the first new musical offering from the performer in two years and serves as a direct acknowledgement to her fan base.
A lyric video utilizing older footage accompanies the track release. The video was directed by Cliff Watts, a frequent collaborator who previously photographed the artist for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover around her 25th birthday.
The original “B’Day” album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales reaching 541,196 copies. The record achieved similar chart success internationally, including a number one position on the International Album Chart in Japan within three days of its release.
