A new musical collective called Rainbow Body has formed following the launch of Quoia, a conservation alliance dedicated to protecting natural environments. The band features a lineup that includes Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith of Dawes, Rick Mitarotonda of Goose, Eric Krasno of Lettuce and Soulive, Ross James of Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band, and Adam MacDougall of Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Circles Around the Sun. The project also features special guest appearances by Nicki Bluhm and Oteil Burbridge of Dead and Company.
The group brought together its members for Quoia Session 1, an initiative that invites musicians to write and record in remote natural environments. The inaugural session took place at Flóki Studios, a recording facility located on a former sheep farm in the Fljót Valley of Northern Iceland.
During the session, the collective recorded eight original tracks that combine elements of psychedelic rock, Americana, soul, folk, and musical improvisation. Proceeds generated from the inaugural project will directly benefit the North Atlantic Salmon Fund, a non-profit organization focused on Atlantic salmon conservation and marine biodiversity.
Quoia was established through a joint partnership involving experiential travel company Eleven, sustainable packaging company Atlantic Packaging, Cox Enterprises, and Flóki Studios. The organization was formed in association with A New Earth Project, an initiative founded by Atlantic Packaging president Wes Carter to address plastic pollution in global waterways.
Rainbow Body will make its debut live performance on Friday, October 23, at the Coast Film and Music Festival in Laguna Beach, California. Ticket pre-sales for the premier event opened on Thursday, August 27.
