Pluto TV has announced the launch of Double Feature Fridays, a new weekly movie format created in partnership with Entertainment Tonight. Beginning Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, the free streaming service will pair a popular studio classic alongside the free streaming premiere of an independent film.
The weekly pairings will connect two films using shared talent, themes, or genres. Each double feature will be introduced by Entertainment Tonight correspondent Emily Curl using original hosting segments and archival footage from the entertainment news outlet.
The hosting segments draw from four decades of behind-the-scenes interviews, set visits, and star commentary from the Entertainment Tonight vault. These segments are designed to provide viewers with background context and cast reflections before each featured film begins.
Will Gurman, senior vice president of content partnerships and programming at Pluto TV, stated that the goal is to establish the service as a regular weekly movie destination. Curl added that introducing archival moments brings an unexpected perspective to familiar movies while introducing audiences to new releases.
The series debuts with a double feature pairing of Gravity and The Outer Threat. The opening segment features vault interviews detailing Sandra Bullock’s physical preparation for Gravity, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of co-star George Clooney, followed by the streaming premiere of The Outer Threat starring Constance Wu.
Each new double feature will air Fridays at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on the Pluto TV Spotlight channel before becoming available in the service’s on-demand library. The lineup will include titles from major studios like Paramount, Warner Bros., and Lionsgate, featuring film combinations such as Django Unchained with Outlaw Posse, John Wick: Chapter 4with Reckless, Friday with A Hip Hop Story, Pitch Perfect with 40 Dates and 40 Nights, and The Notebook with What’s Love Got to Do with It.
Double Feature Fridays will run weekly through the end of 2026. The program schedule will conclude near the end of the year with holiday film offerings, including Scrooged alongside Bad Santa and Bad Santa 2.
