Nutribullet has named Protein Caramel Horchata Ice Cream as its first official Flavor of the Year following a global voting contest. The winning recipe was selected by dessert enthusiasts as part of the brand’s Scoops Around the World campaign, which featured creations inspired by several countries, including Spain, Italy, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
The winning creation offers a dairy-free variation on Spain’s traditional horchata beverage. The recipe blends warm cinnamon, dates, and caramel flavors, containing no refined sugar while incorporating an added boost of protein.
The international campaign invited creators to share culturally inspired ice cream recipes to demonstrate how food connects communities. Following the showcase, public voting determined the final selection from the global recipe collection.
According to Mallory Jurich, Vice President of Marketing at Capital Brands, the campaign aimed to demonstrate how home cooks can recreate international flavors using simple ingredients. The company noted that the horchata recipe stood out to voters for combining traditional flavors with better-for-you ingredients.
The recipe was developed for preparation using the nutribullet Chill, the company’s first dedicated frozen dessert machine. The appliance features five preset programs for making gelato, ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and smoothie bowls, along with a specialized blade system and an insulated freeze bowl.
