
A new documentary film titled Campfire Chronicles explores the history of camping in America and its influence on national culture. Produced by Kampgrounds of America, Inc., in partnership with Winnebago Industries and other outdoor brands, the project coincides with the country’s 250th anniversary.
The film traces the evolution of camping from early expeditions and roadside travel to modern campground experiences. It highlights the people, places, and traditions that have defined outdoor recreation across generations.
Campfire Chronicles debuted on local broadcast stations on July 18 and will continue airing on television throughout the summer. The film will be released online this fall for viewers nationwide.
Diane Eichler, senior vice president of marketing at KOA, noted that camping functions as a tradition where families reconnect and pass down memories across generations. She stated that the film highlights both historic journeys and modern innovations in outdoor comfort.
Amber Holm, chief marketing and customer experience officer at Winnebago Industries, expressed pride in supporting the project. She cited the outdoor environment’s ability to bring people together, whether through weekend getaways or long-distance road trips.
Kurt Miller, the film’s producer, drew on his background directing alongside his father, Warren Miller. He stated that the project aims to celebrate an enduring spirit of adventure while encouraging families to unplug and spend time outdoors.
