Comedian and design enthusiast Leslie Jones will critique poorly managed short-term vacation properties in a new home television series titled Roast My Rental. The 11-episode season is scheduled to premiere on the HGTV network on Friday, July 24, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The program focuses on properties with misleading listings, viral photos of problematic amenities, and low guest reviews.
Following an evaluation of each property’s issues, Jones will collaborate with a construction and design team led by home renovation expert Jasmine Roth. The crew will have 72 hours to correct structural flaws, resolve design chaos, and upgrade the properties into high-tier lodging choices. The modifications aim to improve future guest experiences and help the property owners secure better rental reviews.
The premiere episode features a secluded cottage property situated near the wine country region of Temecula, California. Property owners Michael and Monica sought assistance after necessary building updates were delayed due to an illness, resulting in no guest bookings or operational profits. Specific property issues inside the home include duct tape on the kitchen faucet, dirty shag carpeting, sharp fireplace borders, and an unsafe loft area.
During the three-day repair window, the team will update the main living space with new flooring, fresh paint, updated furniture pieces, and a custom wine cabinet. The renovation plan also incorporates converting the unsafe upper loft area into a dedicated hangout space for children. The structural changes are intended to give the rental home an alpine-inspired aesthetic to attract future reservations.
Jones noted that her extensive time traveling on comedy tours provided her with significant personal experience staying in various lodging facilities. The featured real estate owners specifically requested the property interventions to identify their operational problems and correct the layout issues. The physical upgrades are designed to transition the poorly reviewed properties into functional vacation rentals.
