The historic Scarritt Building in downtown Kansas City will be transformed into UMusic Hotel Kansas City following an announcement by UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle and UMH Development, LLC. Construction on the adaptive reuse project is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The 117-year-old landmark will undergo renovations to preserve its original architectural character while creating a new luxury hospitality property. Located three blocks from the Power & Light District and within a 10-minute walk of the T Mobile Center, the development aims to highlight the city’s musical history.
Upon completion, the complex will feature approximately 169 guest rooms and a connected residential tower containing 309 units. Plans also include an immersive music and entertainment venue, a professional recording studio, and a UMusic Shop retail store.
Additional amenities planned for the property include a luxury spa, a fitness center, and multiple food and beverage options. Guests will have access to a year-round rooftop restaurant, lounge, and pool.
The project is being developed through a partnership between UMH Development, LLC. and BR Companies, working alongside local leadership from the City of Kansas City, the Economic Development Corporation, and PortKC. The hotel follows previous brand developments such as UMusic Hotel Madrid.
