David Byrne is bringing his 2025 and 2026 world tour to the screen in a new concert film directed by Brady Corbet. The production was shot on 70mm film across multiple nights at the Hippodrome in Baltimore, Byrne’s hometown.
The project captures a live production that has played to audiences for more than 150 shows across four continents. The film is currently in postproduction, with distribution and release details to be announced.
The performance centers on the Who Is The Sky? tour, which launched in September 2025 following the release of Byrne’s album of the same name on Matador Records. The show features an ensemble of 13 musicians, singers, and dancers, with set lists that blend new material with Talking Heads classics including “Psycho Killer,” “This Must Be the Place,” “Life During Wartime,” and “Burning Down the House.”
Corbet directed the project on 8-perf and 15-perf 70mm stock fresh off his work on The Brutalist, which earned 10 Academy Award nominations and won three, including Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. Corbet also received the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Venice Film Festival Silver Lion for Best Director for the film.
Byrne previously starred in the 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, directed by Jonathan Demme, which saw a theatrical re-release in 2023. His recent stage project, David Byrne’s American Utopia, was directed for the screen by Spike Lee and won two Emmy Awards.
The upcoming film is produced by The Deep End Films and Pre-Code, Corbet’s production company with Mona Fastvold, and is presented by River Road Entertainment. Producers include Amit Dey and Jason Fine for The Deep End Films, Corbet and Maddie Browning for Pre-Code, and Byrne. Executive producers include Bill Pohlad, Andrew van Wyk, Michael Overman, Meredith Sumner, Martin Sumner, Sam Fayed, and Adam Gibbs.
Global distribution rights are represented by The Gersh Agency alongside The Deep End Films. The live tour concludes its run on September 19 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York.
