Singer-songwriter Carly Simon has released Comes In Waves, marking her first album of original material since 2008. The 12-track project was written and recorded primarily at her home on Martha’s Vineyard.
The release comes shortly after Simon disclosed her diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and a recent cancer surgery for basal cell carcinoma. Alongside the record, Simon and her team announced the upcoming launch of a digital archive powered by Starchive, featuring unreleased recordings, photographs, lyric sheets, and personal notebooks spanning her career.
The album reflects on central themes of love, family, memory, and forgiveness. Its title is derived from the track “Slowly,” which focuses on emotional renewal and the idea that personal feelings recede and return over time
Several family members and long-term associates contributed to the project. Her son, Ben Taylor, served as a singer, musician, producer, and songwriter, while her daughter, Sally Taylor, contributed vocals and single artwork. The album also features contributions from the late John Forté.
Producers Paul Samwell-Smith and Frank Filipetti helped shape the project’s direction. Samwell-Smith reworked “Share The End,” a track he originally produced for Simon’s 1971 album Anticipation, while Filipetti served as a primary collaborator throughout production.
