The NoMa Business Improvement District has announced the return of its annual public art festival, NoMa in Color, taking place September 11 through September 18. During the week-long event, 17 selected artists will create 16 new large-scale murals across the Washington neighborhood.
The new additions will bring NoMa’s active public art collection to 73 murals. Since the festival began more than a decade ago, participating artists have created over 200 murals in the district, establishing the area as one of the largest outdoor public art collections in the region.
A competitive review process selected 17 artists from a pool of more than 150 applicants. The final roster includes 13 works planned along the Metropolitan Branch Trail wall, a collaborative project between two artists, and a group mural painted by graduate students at the University of the District of Columbia.
The public can view the artists working on site throughout the week leading up to the final event. The festival concludes with Color Jam, a free community celebration scheduled for September 18 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Alethia Tanner Park.
The closing event will feature live entertainment, local food trucks, a pop-up beer garden hosted by Lost Generation Brewing Co., an artisan market with more than 20 local makers, and opportunities to meet the muralists.
The 2026 festival is produced in partnership with the WMATA Art in Transit Program alongside support from Events DC and Lime. Festival alumni artists Corey Bernat and Marc Pekala are directing muralist coordination for the week.
