The Strokes performed to a sold-out crowd of 40,000 fans at Flushing Meadows Corona Park for their first New York City headline show since 2023. The lineup for the homecoming event included supporting performances from Beach House, TV on the Radio, and Fcukers.
The band performed a set of songs from their catalog, concluding with “Ode To The Mets” near Citi Field, and played a cover of “This Is Not” by Blonde Redhead. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made guest appearances to introduce the group, while labor organizer Chris Smalls and political commentator Lee Camp appeared on stage during the concert.
Prior to the performances, Julian Casablancas hosted an S.O.S. – Earth Is A Mess event at the venue featuring Smalls, Camp, and political strategist Maya Rupert. The group also recently released a music video for “Going Shopping” starring actor Walton Goggins, which was filmed in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, following a May performance of “Falling out of Love” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The sold-out tour continues in Europe with two shows at the O2 in London, followed by dates at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Accor Arena in Paris, and Uber Arena in Berlin. Upcoming stops on the international schedule also include performances at Centennial Park in Sydney, Coliseo Medplus in Bogotá, Primavera Sound Fauna, and Primavera Sound São Paulo.
The tour supports the group’s new album, Reality Awaits, which was recorded in Costa Rica and international locations with producer Rick Rubin. Formed in New York City, The Strokes have released music together since their 2001 debut album.
