Wounded Warrior Project backs new house legislation increasing VA benefits

The House of Representatives passed the Sharri Briley and Eric Edmundson Veterans Benefits Expansion Act, known as H.R. 6047. The legislation aims to increase critical Department of Veterans Affairs benefits for severely wounded veterans and surviving family members.
The Wounded Warrior Project announced its support for the legislative progress. According to the organization, surviving families relying on Dependency and Indemnity Compensation have not seen a meaningful benefit increase in more than 30 years.
The bill addresses financial gaps for families of service members who died from service-connected injuries. It also modifies Special Monthly Compensation.
Currently, veterans depending on Special Monthly Compensation face high out-of-pocket expenses for caregiving and independent living services. The newly approved House bill would increase both sets of benefits to provide greater financial security.
Jose Ramos, vice president for Government and Community Relations for the Wounded Warrior Project, noted that severely injured warriors and surviving families frequently lack necessary resources. The organization assists these individuals through its Independence Program and additional services.
The bill now moves forward in the legislative process toward becoming law.
