Washington Revels will present Winter Revels 2026: An American Celebration from Dec. 12 to 19 at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. The show is the organization’s 44th annual winter production.

The story takes place on Christmas Eve 1870 at the Washington home of Hiram Rhodes Revels, the nation’s first African American U.S. senator, and his wife, Phoebe. Friends and family gather for the holiday, and guests meet strangers from a faraway isle, hear a mysterious letter and help search for a precious gift. The production explores love, family, friendship and freedom, and it marks the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Washington Revels’ Jubilee Voices is at the center of the production. Founded in 2010, the ensemble preserves and shares African American history and traditions through a cappella music, drama, spoken word and dance. It will perform with members of the Whiskey Before Breakfast Band, the Washington Revels Brass and the organization’s 75-member multigenerational chorus.

The music includes carols, spirituals, parlor tunes, folk songs, dances and instrumentals. Audiences will take part through communal singing, a tradition of the Winter Revels.

Performances are scheduled as follows:

  • Saturday, Dec. 12: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 13: 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 17: 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 18: 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 19: 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

All shows take place at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus, 7995 Georgia Ave. Tickets go on sale to the general public Oct. 20 through the Washington Revels website.
