Thousands of music fans gathered in Minneapolis and at Paisley Park from June 3 to 7 for a five-day tribute marking a decade since Prince’s passing. The 10th Anniversary Prince Celebration: Celebration of Life featured live performances, panel discussions, and community programming across the Twin Cities.
The event served as the launchpad for a new posthumous album titled Timeless, scheduled for release on August 28 through the Prince Estate and Legacy Recordings. The upcoming collection includes 10 rare and unreleased recordings from various eras of the artist’s career. Attendees participated in exclusive listening sessions for the album, which coincides with the immediate release of the unreleased 1995 single “Stone.”
“Ten years after Prince’s transition, his spirit continues to unite people from every corner of the world through music, creativity, love and community,” said L. Londell McMillan, Prince’s former attorney, manager, and producer of the celebration. “This year’s Celebration was a powerful reminder that Prince’s legacy is not only preserved, it continues to grow with supporters from all generations.”
The programming included a milestone concert at The Armory, where members of The Revolution and The New Power Generation reunited on stage. They performed alongside artists including Morris Day, Miguel, Tevin Campbell, Bilal, Kat Graham, Liv Warfield, Ashley Támar, and The Twins.
Other events included a kickoff party at First Avenue featuring guest performer Chaka Khan, a jam session hosted by DJ Rashida, and a panel where Morris Day was presented with the Prince Legacy Award. The honor recognizes individuals whose cultural impact and artistry reflect Prince’s influence on popular culture.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey officially proclaimed June 1 to 7 as Prince Celebration Week. In line with this designation, attendees participated in a free block party and a community sing-along at the downtown Prince mural, which featured a performance by CeeLo Green. The week concluded with family days at Paisley Park, local food drives, memorial visits, and the debut of a new Paisley Park mobile app.
