The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library will officially open to the public in Medora on July 4, 2026. The grand opening coincides with a four-day America 250 celebration featuring live entertainment, family activities, and community gatherings.
International architecture firm Snøhetta designed the new facility, integrating the building into the surrounding Badlands terrain. The library utilizes multimedia experiences, artifacts, and interactive displays to explore the life, leadership, and conservation legacy of the 26th president.
The opening serves as the centerpiece for Medora’s broader America 250 Celebration running from July 2 through July 5. The multi-day festival will host events in downtown Medora and Chimney Park, concluding with an Independence Day drone show inspired by the history of the American West.
Visitors traveling to the area can access several nearby historical sites connected to the former president. Local attractions include the Maltese Cross Cabin, the Chateau de Mores State Historic Site, and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which preserves the original site of Roosevelt’s Elkhorn Ranch.
The state is also promoting a broader network of Roosevelt-related destinations through a specialized digital passport trail. Participating statewide locations include the Rough Rider Hall of Fame in Bismarck, the Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University, and Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in Mandan.
