The First Responders Children’s Foundation has opened public nominations for its annual National First Responders Day ceremony. The event is scheduled to take place live in New York City’s Times Square on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
This year marks the first time the foundation is accepting nominations directly from the public. Individuals across the country are invited to identify local first responders who have made a significant impact in their communities over the last 12 months.
The application window remains open through July 31, 2026, for eligible acts of service occurring since October 2025. Local, state, and federal emergency personnel across multiple disciplines are eligible for the honors, including dispatch, law enforcement, medical services, and fire departments.
The 2026 ceremony coincides with the 25th anniversary of the non-profit organization, which was established following the events of September 11, 2001. The upcoming event will take place at Duffy Square starting at 11 a.m. EST.
Selected honorees will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City, which includes roundtrip airfare and a specialized tour itinerary. The event is organized with co-chairs Tom Harris of the Times Square Alliance and John Feal of the FealGood Foundation.
