The Outsiders stage musical expands national youth initiative with City Year partnership

The producers of the Broadway musical The Outsiders announced a national partnership between The Stay Gold Project and City Year on October 5, 2026. Unveiled at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre during the show’s Los Angeles opening, the collaboration aims to expand theater access for students and educators across North America.

The Stay Gold Project provides subsidized tickets and educational resources for students to attend performances of The Outsiders on Broadway and on tour. The new partnership connects the initiative with City Year’s network of 1,500 student success coaches across 29 regional sites serving 250 schools nationwide.

Under the agreement, City Year coaches will accompany students to regional performances, provide study guides, and organize post-show discussions with cast members. The national expansion is supported by lead sponsor The Crimson Lion / Lavine Family Foundation, along with previous funding from the SONIC Foundation and private donors.

The Stay Gold Project utilizes Situation Project as its fiscal sponsor to facilitate donations supporting student tickets in tour cities. Ticket distribution and educational programming will be coordinated through local City Year site networks and participating school districts.

Based on S.E. Hinton’s novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s film, The Outsiders opened on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in April 2024. The national tour launched in Tulsa in October 2025 and is scheduled to run through at least December 2027 under the management of lead producer The Araca Group.
