HBO Max is returning to San Diego this summer with a schedule of interactive activations, panel discussions, and advanced screenings. The events will highlight upcoming television premieres and returning original programming, including two new series from Warner Bros. Television.
The lineup features the comedy series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which premieres on July 23, and the DC Studios drama Lanterns, debuting on August 16. Fans of the network will also have access to an early screening of an upcoming episode from the third season of House of the Dragon.
The activation for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will take place at the Sparks Gallery at 530 Sixth Avenue from July 23 through July 26. The interactive space recreates “The Comic Center of Pasadena,” the fictional comic shop featured in the television series The Big Bang Theory. Visitors will walk through a story-driven portal experience to identify their own hero archetypes based on characters from the new spinoff series.
Operating hours for the comic shop installation are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. A formal panel and advance screening for the series is scheduled for July 23 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center. The panel features creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady alongside cast members Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, John Ross Bowie, and Brian Posehn, with Felicia Day moderating.
The network is also hosting the Lanterns Training Headquarters activation from July 23 through July 25 at Venue 808, located at 808 J Street. The space mimics the show’s setting of Rushville, Nebraska, and includes a series of physical and analytical challenges inside replica environments like a sheriff’s office and a dive bar. Participants must be 18 or older, and online registration opens on July 13 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
The Lanterns public venue will run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, and from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The official series panel will take place on July 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Hall H. Featured guests include actors Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan, as well as co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King.
The weekend programming concludes with a special fan screening of House of the Dragon season three, episode six. The screening will take place on July 25 from 10:00 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. inside Room 6DE of the San Diego Convention Center. Showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal will provide a formal introduction before the episode begins.
