The Grey Muzzle Organization has announced the distribution of $1,186,142 in grant funding for its 2026 award cycle. A total of 59 recipient organizations across 29 states were chosen from a pool of more than 270 applicants.
The distributed funds are allocated toward programs that provide medical care, pain management, dental treatments, and surrender prevention for at-risk older dogs. The grant strategies were developed to help shelters and rescue groups manage an increasing number of senior dogs entering care and experiencing longer lengths of stay.
Executive Director Emily Grossheider stated that the funding empowers shelters, rescue groups, and nonprofits to provide life-changing support. She noted that the resources help these organizations advance best practices in senior dog welfare across the country.
One recipient, the Footbridge Foundation, utilized grant funding to provide extensive medical treatment, a necessary groom, and dental surgery for a senior Shih Tzu named Bubbles following a rescue from a hoarding situation. The animal is now awaiting adoption after receiving care for multiple painful infections.
The Raleigh, North Carolina-based nonprofit accepts public donations to fund these annual senior dog veterinary and comfort grants. Additional information regarding the full list of animal shelters receiving funding is available through the organization’s official website.
