Organizers have announced the seventh annual Great American Relay, a 565-mile running event honoring the victims and heroes of September 11. The seven-day event is scheduled to take place from September 5 through September 11, 2026, coinciding with America’s 250th anniversary.
Participants will retrace a path of remembrance starting at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The route continues through the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, and concludes at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City.
The relay raises funds to support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its mission. The organization provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families, builds smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans, and helps eradicate veteran homelessness.
Race director Vince Varallo noted that the event focuses on remembering the heroes who changed the nation and celebrating uniting values. The relay welcomes runners of all abilities who can participate through individual legs, teams, or volunteer roles along the route.
The route travels through Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, and New York. Organizers are currently seeking individual participants, corporate sponsors, course marshals, and community partners.
