R.E.M. will mark the 25th anniversary of their 2001 studio album Reveal with an expanded reissue set for release on November 20 through Craft Recordings. The project includes The Black Sessions Revealed, a previously unreleased 17-song live set recorded for Radio France in Paris on May 7, 2001.
The anniversary reissue will be available as a deluxe two-CD and Blu-ray set alongside expanded digital editions. The collection pairs the original 12-track album with the Radio France performance, which includes live renditions of Reveal songs alongside catalog tracks such as “Losing My Religion,” “Man on the Moon,” and “The One I Love.”
Physical deluxe editions feature high-resolution audio, 5.1 surround sound, music videos, a 32-page hardcover book with archival photography, and new liner notes by journalist Birgit Fuss featuring reflections from Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, and Mike Mills. The Black Sessions Revealed will also receive a standalone two-LP vinyl release, alongside exclusive color vinyl pressings offered through the band’s webstore.
Originally released in May 2001, Reveal was recorded across locations in Athens, Georgia, Vancouver, Dublin, and Miami with producer Pat McCarthy. The album reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom and No. 6 on the Billboard 200, supported by singles including “Imitation of Life,” “All the Way to Reno (You’re Gonna Be a Star),” and “I’ll Take the Rain.”
The band recorded the Paris radio session during a limited run of promotional appearances rather than a traditional full-length concert tour. A live recording of “Imitation of Life” from The Black Sessions has been released for digital streaming ahead of the November physical launch.
