Food Network has announced the upcoming premiere of its new competitive cooking series, Pitmasters. The television program is scheduled to debut on Monday, July 13 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time. Episodes will also become available to stream the following day on the HBO Max digital platform.
The television series features teams of outdoor cooks competing across a continuous, week-long tournament format. Participants will be required to execute multiple live-fire cooking techniques while preparing various proteins, including a whole hog breakdown challenge. Competitors will face an elimination structure while vying for cash prizes totaling up to $50,000.
An selected panel of culinary industry professionals will evaluate the finished dishes throughout the competition. The judging team includes television personality Andrew Zimmern alongside barbecue industry experts Jess Pryles, Moe Cason, and Ernest Servantes. The judges will rate each team based on culinary perspective, flavor profiles, and technical execution.
The first episode will introduce a competitive segment designated as the Big Burn challenge. This opening task requires the competing teams to design and cook a family-style barbecue platter consisting of two separate proteins and one side dish within a nine-hour time constraint. The individual teams will present their completed plates to both the judging panel and their fellow contestants.
During the primary cooking period, producers will introduce a secondary timed segment called a Flash Burn challenge. This surprise element mandates that the participants produce a single-bite barbecue dish within a 60-minute window while simultaneously managing their ongoing nine-hour task. The specific subset of competitors includes regional teams from New Jersey, Delaware, Texas, Kentucky, South Carolina, Louisiana, Utah, Nevada, Washington, and Canada.
