Paramount has secured a multi-year licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery to become the exclusive linear television home for the Harry Potter film franchise. The deal covers 11 movies from the library, which includes all eight original Harry Potter films and the three Fantastic Beasts titles.
The franchise will air across several Paramount properties, including MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, and Paramount Network. Laurel Weir, head of programming and acquisitions for Paramount Media Networks, stated that the addition helps the company deliver the franchise to its broad range of audiences.
Programming will begin on MTV with a holiday weekend marathon of the original eight films starting on Friday, July 3. Paramount Network will follow with a week-long broadcasting event featuring all 11 films, airing weeknight movies starting July 13 and continuing through the weekend.
Later in the summer, Nick at Nite will host a week-long showcase of the eight original films starting on August 9, with encore presentations airing the following day on Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon will also broadcast the films over Labor Day weekend, starting September 3, as part of the annual Back to Hogwarts celebrations.
The licensing agreement encompasses nearly 40 hours of cinematic storytelling from the global entertainment property. The movie portfolio spans from the original film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, through the final franchise releases, including Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
